Here’s a few ideas of where to visit:

Brussels from East Midlands/Newcastle from £59pp: Discover a different side to Brussels, including lively and interesting markets; the stunning Grand Place (above) friendly cafés and live music venues (such as Café Belga); or the Laeken Cemetery, with its creepy crypt and resident black cat that sleeps on the gravestones.

Oslo from Aberdeen from £79pp: For the traveller who can’t decide on a city break or rural getaway, Oslo offers the best of both. Grab an Oslo Pass and explore one of the coolest European cities, then head out to the hills and forests for some outdoor air. For little ones, Hunderfossen Family Park in Lillehammer is a great day out.

Frankfurt, Munich or Hamburg from Bristol from £59pp: Explore Munich’s royal avenues and squares; enjoy over forty museums in Frankfurt and a buzzing night scene; alternatively, shop for bargains in happening Hamburg. Then relax with a German beer or two and watch the world go by.

Manchester from Aberdeen from £38pp: Rummage through the rails of independent outlets in Manchester’s Northern Quarter or big department stores such as Harvey Nicks and Selfridges; enjoy a leisurely game at the Lancashire County Cricket Club; visit celeb hangouts; eat along the famous Curry Mile or escape to Peak District, just 30 minutes away.

Aberdeen from Manchester/Bristol from £38pp: Marvel at one of the finest art collections in the country at Aberdeen Art Gallery, which houses works by Francis Bacon, Monet, Degas and Damien Hirst; have a drink at Ma Cameron’s – Aberdeen’s oldest pub, once a meeting place for Jacobite sympathisers, or enjoy first-rate seafood at Fittee.
