Brighton’s Halloween Horror

Beach boys: zombies take over the streets

If you like your Halloween to have some real horror, then head to Brighton this year.

The south coast city, usually famed for its thriving nightlife, great gay scene and winding lanes full of hip boutiques will be heading for the dark side in October as it plays host to the largest zombie outbreak in recorded history; a horror themed fancy dress ball that will darken the doors of the famous Brighton Ballroom; a spooky Ghost Walk that promises to make even the very bravest participant quiver in their boots; and a daring journey of pure terror in the city’s first ever live horror maze.

On Saturday October 20, Brighton’s world renowned zombie walk, now in its 6th year, starts from West Pier. The terrifying spectacle takes approximately two hours and it’s free to watch or join in. The event is followed by a ‘80s Zombie Prom After party at Concorde 2, costing £3 per ticket, with a spine-tingling DJ line-up from 4pm.

A ‘B movie horror meets Halloween’ fancy dress ball at the Brighton Ball Room also promises to be a fearfully good night out for those who like to dress to kill. Taking place on Sunday October 31, tickets cost £12 per person. See www.brightoncabaret.com

For those who like the macabre and thrive on grisly ends and murky fates, what better way to kill time and celebrate All Hallows Eve than an evening Ghost Walk of the city, with a certified Blue Badge tour guide, costing £7 per person. See www.brightonwalks.com

Last but by no means least Brighton & Hove invite guests to take part in the latest addition to their horror line up for 2012 – a live horror maze aptly named FEAR Brighton. FEAR is a daring journey of pure terror and unspeakable horrors. Set in a gothic, gargoyle-covered building the building which was originally used as a Victorian school for poor girls, steeped in history, rumours and old wives’ tales of ghosts and mysteries brought to life for their visitor’s entertainment.
