The planetarium will close from February 16 to April 24 to complete the project which is being funded by grants from both the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and Bristol City Council.

Once ready, stellar shows will be in 4K ultra-high definition, 3D and with Dolby 7.1 surround sound.

Visitors will be able to see a range of seasonal stargazing shows (in a choice of 2D or 3D), as well as a Space Explorers (2D) offering for under sixes.

Phil Winfield, At-Bristol’s Chief Executive said:
“We are delighted to have been awarded funding for this project – it will enable us to transform our Planetarium into a world-class facility to inspire the scientists of tomorrow. The ability to explore astronomy and earth science in exciting new ways and its use as a centre for data visualisation will allow us to extend our own education offer to both school and public audiences.”
