British Airways honours war heroes

BA poppy plane

British Airways has painted a giant poppy on a plane to honour our war heroes.

To commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth servicemen and women in the two world wars and later conflicts, a British Airways 747 has been adorned with an 8ft by 8ft poppy.

In the centenary year of the beginning of the First World War, the aircraft will fly to numerous BA destinations around the world.

Keith Williams, BA executive chairman, said: “We are honoured to pay our own tribute to the millions who have fought for their country during the last 100 years. We believe this will help deliver the spirit of remembrance to countries around the world and support the great work that takes place through The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.”

The airline will be asking customers and colleagues to observe a period of silence at 11am on Remembrance Sunday, November 9, and Armistice Day on Tuesday November 11. During both periods, BA pilots at UK airports will not start aircraft engines.
