British Airways to break Christmas records

National airline British Airways will break Christmas records this year with more than 2.7 million people expected to fly over the holiday period.

The company’s busiest Christmas ever comes on the back of 20 new aircraft joining its fleet over the last 12 months.

During the festive period, the company says there will be:

• 267 flights flying around the network on Christmas Day

• 817 pilots and 3,500 cabin crew looking after customers on December 25

• 37,000 dinners to be served on Christmas Day

• December 19 is busiest day with 129,000 customers flying

• Top destinations include Dubai, Barbados, New York, Australia and Barcelona

Flights will also feature a carefully curated selection of TV programmes and the holiday blockbuster Home Alone.

Some of the Christmas specials showing on board during the festivities include: Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Friends, Family Guy, Mrs Brown’s Boys, The Vicar of Dibley, One Foot in the Grave, Gordon Ramsay’s Christmas Home Cooking, and for children – ‘Gangsta Granny’.

The airline is also showing Doctor Who Earth Conquest, a documentary filmed during the British TV show’s recent world tour, of which British Airways was the proud event sponsor for the Seoul and Sydney stops on the tour.

From Boxing Day, customers will also be able to watch the annual Queen’s address.

Audio albums on board include ‘Advent Calendar’ by The Choir of Somerville College, Oxford, belting out traditional carols including; The Twelve days of Christmas, Silent Night and In the Bleak Mid-Winter. As well as ‘Christmas the Collection’ (various) and ‘4 Girls 4 Harps’ featuring O Holy Night, Deck the Halls and Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
