Center Parcs hunts for the best treehouse in the UK

Center Parcs

If you’ve got a tree in your garden, start building quick. And you could win yourself a family stay at Center Parcs.

The holiday resort has launched a search to find the UK’s top treehouse and wildlife presenter and adventurer Steve Backshall will choose the winner.

A survey shows 59 per cent of kids would prefer a treehouse to a new game console. And two in five think that it would be the most epic thing their parents could do for them (presumably even if they don’t live in a house which has a garden with a tree in it!!!).

Center Parcs

Center Parcs have launched the competition to mark the arrival of four new super tree houses, with luxury bedrooms, above, at Center Parcs Elveden Forest in Suffolk. Families are being asked to send in pictures of their tree creation and the winner will get a short break in a luxury Center Parcs treehouse.

Steve Backshall

Steve Backshall, above, famed for his CBBC adventure and wildlife programmes, says: “We’re not necessarily looking for the biggest or flashiest treehouse, but something which shows the personality of the family. This is the sort of thing I would definitely want to do if I have children in the future.”

Center Parcs Chief Treehouse builder Tom Courtney has some tips: “One most important things to consider when building a treehouse is exploring the different types of access. This should be your starting point.

“This is a great opportunity to experiment with ladders, ramps, ropes or bridges. Even before entering your treehouse you have already had an exciting journey getting to the front door!

“The house itself can be any shape or size, why stick to a conventional box shape? Try introducing different levels and angles to your house. Overall the treehouse should be individual to you and be a fun space that you can enjoy spending time with family and friends.”

Families can enter by posting a picture of themselves and their treehouse on Facebook or twitter, with the hashtag #UKTopTreehouse, before midnight on Wednesday 3rd August.
