Cowell curse witch applies for Wookey Hole job

Wookey Hole

A woman who cursed Simon Cowell on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, has applied for the vacant job as the witch at a popular holiday attraction.

Gwyneth Marichi, who told Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan that they ‘were doomed’ after being rejected after a few seconds of her comedy routine on the television show has applied for the job of resident witch at Wookey Hole Caves in Somerset.

The Caves is running its own “Hex Factor” auditions later this month after current witch, actress Sunny Van der Pas, handed in her notice to take up a new career running her own retro clothes shop.

If she arrives at the auditions, Gwyneth from South Wales will have just one minute to impress a panel of three judges to try to clinch the £50,000 a year (pro rata) role. Now in her 60s she is likely to be up against drama school graduates, actresses and children’s entertainers keen to land the role.

Director of Wookey Hole Daniel Medley said: “We were a little worried when Gwyneth rang up and we realised she has a track record for cursing judges. The incident is an internet hit so we were able to watch it again online and she quite clearly says it was her one and only lifetime curse, so we believe she has used it up.

“There is a lot of myth and magic associated with Wookey Hole going back over centuries so if we have to protect ourselves from Gwyneth we have the spells at hand!

“We have had enquiries from as far afield as Australia and have sent out over 100 application forms out in the last week. We expect to welcome some colourful characters on audition day.”

The role of Wookey Hole Witch is open to male, female and transgender witches of any age. Sunny Van der Pas is 29-years-old and will be one of the panel deciding on her replacement.

She said: “We could select a glamorous young witch that appeals to the Dads or it could be an older Grandmother-type witch. Although the witch has magical powers and can be scary at Halloween it has to be someone who doesn’t frighten children and who is entertaining and fun.

When auditions were last held in 2009 close to 3,000 potential witches came forward hoping to be appointed to the £50,000 a year (pro-rata) role.
