With people still being squeezed by the credit crunch, a leading travel agent has launched an online holiday cost comparison tool to help holidaymakers plan ahead.

The Family Holiday Cost Comparison tool by On the Beach compares 10 key holiday essentials including nappies, sun cream and eating out across 30 popular destinations in and around Europe.

The tool will help holidaymakers choose a destination that best suits their budget and holiday requirements. For those looking to let their hair down, Fuerteventura offers the cheapest lager at €0.60, just a fraction of the bank breaking €5  for one in Nice, France.

Holidaymakers will also be able to minimise packing: those packing with babies and infants will find it useful that a pack of 20 nappies is more than triple the cost in Fuerteventura than in Sharm El Sheikh. In fact the cheapest nappies can be found in the UK.

However, sun cream is best bought abroad, with the UK being one of the most expensive places to purchase at €11.58, compared to hot spots in Egypt selling it at a bargain €3.00.

Overall, Paris is the most expensive destination, proving a week in the sun could cost a fraction of the price of a swanky city break, with Lanzarote named as the cheapest destination closely followed by neighbouring Tenerife.
