Historic family home Hartland Abbey has announced its Daffodil Day for 2013 on March 17.

The North Devon attraction’s daffodils were planted more than 150 years ago by the home’s former owners and when flourishing in Spring, join a host of colour from other flowers, including  camellias, hellebores, early spring bulbs, mimosas and wild primroses and violets.

Parts of the estate, normally closed to the public, will be open on the day which runs from 11am to 4pm, and there are opportunities for walks to Blackpool Mill, which starred as ‘Barton Cottage’ in the BBC adaptation of Sense and Sensibility.

Walk along stunning woodland paths through wild flowers to the Gazebo and the newly restored Woodland Summerhouse, hidden since 1945. A new circular walk has proved very popular since it opened in 2012.  The Abbey itself will be open between 11 am and  4 pm at a small extra charge.

Entry is £4 for adults, £1 for children over five and free for younger children.
