Hike through the Yorkshire Dales in the dark on bonfire night!

Yorkshire Dales

Now here’s a novel way of spending bonfire night, especially if you don’t agree in burning money! While most people will be watching fireworks, some will see the sky lit up naturally as the sun goes down on the Yorkshire Dales.

You can enjoy an unusual bonfire night by going on a Night Hike with an experienced leader to the highest or second highest peak in Yorkshire.

On November 5, the Northern Guiding team will set off with ‘night owl’ walkers, from Ribblehead,  site of the incredible 104ft high Ribblehead Viaduct (above) with its 24 arches.

The final destination will be Whernside – the whaleback-shaped mountain that, at 2,415 feet, is the tallest of Yorkshire’s famous ‘Three Peaks’ and the highest point in North Yorkshire and the historic West Riding. When at its summit, a walker is on the border with Cumbria.

Those too busy setting off rockets can book for a second Night Walk with Northern Guiding on November 19. It will start in Ribblehead, but this time head to Ingleborough the second highest mountain in the Yorkshire Dales at 2,372 feet (723m). Iron Age huts inside an ancient walled enclosure have been found at the summit.

They hikes cost £25 per person and can be booked here
