Holidays are cheaper in 2013 than 2012

MADEIRA

Good news for holidaymakers if research by one online company is to be believed – because your week in the sun is likely to be cheaper in 2013 than in 2012.

The research by online travel agent On the Beach shows that 77 per cent of holidays checked are cheaper this year than last.

The company compared like-for-like, seven-night holidays for two adults during June across a number of popular sun destinations, comparing average prices from 2013 with those from 2012, and the results showed massive savings for holidaymakers this year.

Despite the 2.7 per cent rise in inflation and ever increasing fuel prices, many holidays to sun drenched destinations are actually up to 25 per cent cheaper, with Madeira offering the best value this summer.

Last year, a one-week three-star holiday for two cost £799, whilst this year the same holiday costs just £599; saving a whopping £200.

Cyprus also shows a massive drop in prices with holidaymakers saving up to 20 per cent on last year, with Bulgaria also proving better value, offering holidays up to 15 per cent cheaper than last summer.

The popular Canary Island of Tenerife is also showing a significant drop in holiday prices with many hotels offering all-inclusive holidays up to 14 per cent cheaper than in 2012.

Other sun spots offering cheaper holiday prices this year include Egypt’s ever popular resort of Sharm El Sheikh down 13 per cent on last year and Greece which is 12 per cent cheaper.

Alistair Daly, Chief Marketing Officer comments, “When most day to day costs increase on a yearly basis, it’s no doubt a breath of fresh air for Brits when well-deserved holidays are actually more affordable than ever. Holidays to Cyprus and Bulgaria are already outselling last year and with so many holidays cheaper, we expect a bumper year for travel this year.”
