It’s National Yorkshire Pudding Day on Sunday and if you’ve always thought of the classic accompaniment to roast beef to be on the stodgy side this might change your mind: a hotel has created the world’s most expensive Yorkshire pudding.

The one-off creation by head chef Adam Smith at the Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa on the borders of the Yorkshire Dales in Bolton Abbey uses ingredients including a Beer-Fed Dexter beef fillet, whole black perigord truffle and gold leaf for a dish that costs a whopping £500.

Smith said: “This isn’t something that I do every day, but for the special occasion of Yorkshire Pudding Day I’ve decided to combine some of the best local products with one of my favourite and most luxurious ingredients, the black perigord truffle, which are at their peak this time of year.

“The combination of textures and flavours creates the most sensational eating experience. It’s just a shame that it can’t be enjoyed more often”.

Yorkshire Pudding connoisseur and food writer, Elaine Lemm was on hand to give her expert opinion on the taste sensation that Adam presented.

The author of The Great Book Of Yorkshire Pudding book said: “I have seen and eaten Yorkshire Puddings in many guises, but never elevated to theses lofty heights! This humble pudd has risen elegantly to the occasion.”
