Hotel launches Jane Austen room

Jane Austen room

You have to love Pride and Prejudice. To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s iconic novel, Coast & Country Hotels is launching a suite so you can live like the author. From this April, book a break in Bath and you will be able to relax in the newly-created Jane Austen Room at the elegant Lansdown Grove Hotel. Guests can learn about one of Britain’s most celebrated writers, who lived in Bath and set two of her novels in the vibrant city.

Designed to inspire guests to write their own literary classic, the Jane Austen Room includes a small library of her work and an Austen-themed writing desk on which guests can pen love notes to their very own Mr Darcy! The Lansdown’s great-value break also provides plenty of time to explore Bath, which hosts annual literature and Jane Austen festivals to celebrate its links to classic British books. Bath is also home to the Jane Austen Centre, a popular visitor attraction exploring and celebrating the author’s life in the city.

Jane Milliken, general manager at the Lansdown Grove Hotel, said: “Jane Austen is one of Britain’s most celebrated authors and her books are still widely read today. We decided to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Pride and Prejudice and Jane Austen’s links with Bath with this room that inspires budding authors to begin work on their own novels. The Jane Austen Room will take guests back in time to experience the style and romance of Regency England. We’re expecting the room to be very popular among literature fans.”

Guests at the hotel will also receive 10 per cent off Jane Austen books purchased at the nearby Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights bookshop.

Two nights at The Lansdown Grove Hotel starts from £109 per person, based on two people sharing a standard twin or double room. The price includes a three-course dinner and full traditional breakfast every day. Three-night stays start from £129, with four-night breaks from £169.
