How to appear on stage at Warwick Castle

Warwick Castle

Never mind the X Factor! If you’ve got the W Factor, then here’s how to apply to appear in a new show at Warwick Castle.

Whatever age you are, you could win a cameo performance in Wicked Warwick and join the Horrible Histories characters on stage on Saturday June 20 and Sunday the 21st.

Entry is free and those who register will receive a 2-4-1 voucher to get into the castle. Visit the Warwick Castle website to register to audition in front of a panel of judges at ‘The W Factor at Warwick Castle’ on Wednesday May 27. To jump the queue, let them have a look at you first by uploading your practice video to the Warwick Castle Facebook page with the tag #thewfactor.

The judges will select four people to perform in the live shows. One overall winner will also receive a starlit woodland family sleepover in the Mediaeval Glamping Village on June 21, in a beautiful woodland glade only five minutes from the castle.

Horrible Histories characters have been entertaining visitors to Warwick Castle since 2012, but this is the first ever stage show. Wicked Warwick has been scripted with The Birmingham Stage Company.

If you are applying, you need to be telling a gory story. You could take inspiration from the castle’s role in 1,100 years of English history – founded by a daughter of Alfred the Great, once owned by Richard III, used as a prison for kings and traitors, besieged and burned down, a favourite haunt of flirty Edwardians and even a haven for Hollywood stars!

Castle general manager, Geoff Spooner, said: “There’s no better way to enjoy history than to be involved in telling stories, and The W Factor at Warwick Castle gives everyone the chance to tell a tale in their own way, inspired by our friends from Horrible Histories. You won’t see this show anywhere else, and nowhere else can you win a once in a lifetime role on stage to perform live in front of thousands of families.”

“We’re really keen for kids of all ages, and adults, to take part in The W Factor at Warwick Castle so they can tell stories from history in their own way, whether that’s through song, dance or humour. There needs to be historical truth at the heart of the performance, but we want entrants to be as creative as they can in how they tell their tale. Get together with family or friends to practice, upload a video and then join us for the live auditions – history has never been this horrible!”
