The coat worn by Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch on the front cover of British Airways’ High Life magazine has been auctioned for £5,010.

The £1,795 coat was sold to raise money for Flying Start, BA’s charity partnership with Comic Relief. YourHols told you last week how to bid for the coat and the selling price soared. It followed the news that High Life had been selling on ebay for £50 a copy, forcing BA to restock its aircraft with 10,000 more. A feature inside follows Benedict as he takes a Jaguar ice-driving course in Hämeenlinna, southern Finland.

High Life editor Kerry Smith said: “All the buzz around Benedict’s shoot has prompted some very wild guesses about how much the coat would go for, but £5,010 is way beyond our expectations. We’re delighted it’s raised so much money – it will really make a difference to Flying Start and the children they work with.”
