If you put education and entertainment together, according to G Adventures you get “edutainment”. That word might not catch on but the trips they are offering will. The company has launched 30 holidays on five continents designed for families to spend quality time together and learn more about the world. And to celebrate kids can go for half-price if booked by March 31.

Broomstick riding in the UK, a visit to a ninja museum in Japan, surf lessons in Costa Rica, horseback riding with paniolo cowboys in Hawaii and musical instrument making in Cuba are just a few of the experiences families will be able to share.

MD Michael Edwards said the small group adventure specialist had branched out into the family market after noticing customers were starting to take their own families and looking to raise their children as ‘travellers’ too.

He added: “Our trips are designed for parents who want to share experiences with their children and get away from the typical ‘bucket and spade’ type holiday. These parents are adventurous and want to pass that down to their kids, seeing new places and meeting new people from around the world.”

Holidays include:

  • Cuba – Twelve-day adventure that celebrates the island’s colonial past and vibrant modern-day culture. Priced from £659 per adult and £449 (£225 if booked by March 31) per child for departures in July, August and December. Suitable for ages 6 and above.
  • Jordan – See Petra, camp under the stars at Wadi Rum, then snorkel the coral reefs of Aqaba and float in the Dead Sea. An eight-day trip from £779 per adult and £679 (£340 if booked by March 31) per child for departures in August, October and December. Suitable for ages five and above.
  • Thailand – This adventure mixes everything from a longboat tour of Bangkok, a meeting with a hill tribe community, a cooking class in Chiang Mai and a sombre visit to the infamous bridge over the River Kwai—with a little bit of sand and surf, too. A 12-day trip is priced from £589 per adult and £489 (£245 if booked by March 31) per child for departures in July, August September and December. Suitable for ages five and above.
