Mickey’s hunt for UK family

The hunt is on in the UK to find the world’s first “Walt Disney World Family”. The Orlando resort wants to find a family to best represents its attributes – fun, relaxation, thrills and memories.

You can enter on www.disney.co.uk/waltdisneyworldfamily explaining why your family is one of a kind. And much like the recent Emmy award-winning Modern Family, the winner can be made up of a number of different people, including immediate or distant relatives, friends, colleagues or even neighbours.

Make-up artist and former model Jemma Kidd, above with Mickey and other favourite Disney characters, will help choose the No1 British family who will have their name commemorated on the Florida resort for a year, as well as featuring in a new marketing campaign.

The hunt coincides with research from Walt Disney World during 2012, year of the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympics, which reveals a new wave of “togetherness” amongst British families. It shows a typical break made up of mum, dad and the kids is becoming a thing of the past, with a third of Brits now holidaying with five or more people. More than a quarter of UK family holidays consisted of three or more generations. The survey also found 28 per cent of adults went on holiday with their parents or in-laws and more than 60 per cent have taken friends. A third have even gone away with an ex-partner.

Hugh Wood, Vice President of Disney Destinations International said: “Our first ever hunt for a UK family that best represents what Walt Disney World is all about shows just how special Great Britain is regarded now. This new wave of togetherness highlighted by our research, shows that now more than ever, people are looking for a holiday to cater for the whole family’s needs.

“Here at Walt Disney World, we know how important it is for families to spend quality time together, which is why we ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy – from embarking on wild Africa treks through Animal Kingdom and learning to surf at the Typhoon Lagoon to relaxing with a game of golf at one of our five courses or with a spa treatment at our health clubs.”
