Monarch has announced new routes for next summer from Birmingham – to Split, Croatia’s second largest city, and the World Heritage City of Bordeaux – and from Gatwick to Verona.

There’ll be flights three times a week to Bordeaux (above) from May 22. The city is perfect for a weekend break, with flights operating on a Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a jewel of 18th century architecture and at the centre of one of the largest fine wine regions in the world.

Split, on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, is becoming an increasingly popular destination for holidaymakers providing great transport links to a number of islands including Solta and Brac, as well as other coastal towns and holiday destinations. Flights will operate on a Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The new route will complement Monarch’s existing Croatian route of Dubrovnik from Birmingham. One-way fares from £49.99.

The new route to Verona will operate three times a week with flights operating on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Known as the city of Romeo and Juliet there are many attractions to see in Verona including the Roman Arena, which is the third largest in Italy. One-way fares from £44.99.

Monarch also plans to fly from Luton to the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh from November 7 next year with one-way fares starting from £104.99.
