New flights to Spain from Manchester Airport have been launched by Vueling Airlines. And budget airline Norwegian has announced it is doubling its flights from Gatwick to Gothenburg in Sweden this winter.

Vueling is flying four times a week – Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays – to Barcelona with one-way fares from around £45.

Patrick Alexander, of Manchester Airport Group, above welcoming first passengers Fang-Tzu Tsao and her boyfriend Bekir Satlimis from Ardwick in Manchester, said: “The airline will provide further choice for customers visiting Barcelona as well as giving the opportunity to connect to Vueling’s extensive route network.

“It continues to confirm Manchester Airport as the UK’s Global Gateway from the North, where we have over 22 million passengers a year and a catchment area that extends as far north as Scotland and south to the Midlands.”
