Safestay opens new Edinburgh hostel

Poshtel company Safestay is opening a new Edinburgh hostel in early 2016. Set in the heart of the Old Town, it will be the company’s 4th in the Scottish capital.

Close to the Royal Mile, the former Smart City Hostel at 50 Blackfriars Street occupies the listed building, Blackfriars House and a modern extension.  Previously a brewery and before that, an old print works, the building was converted into a hostel in 2001 and extended in 2007.

The hostel has 132 rooms with 615 beds. 272 beds of these are available throughout the year, while an additional 81 en-suite bedrooms, which are leased to the University of Edinburgh from September to May as part of a student accommodation scheme, are specially converted and made available to Safestay guests over the summer months.

Safestay Edinburgh will feature a heated roof terrace, a fully equipped kitchen, and a licensed bar and kitchen known. Other amenities include pool tables, a laundry room,  an ATM, a computer area, and a book swap library. Freebies include a walking tour and Wi-Fi.

Rates start from £18 per bed per night. Private twin rooms are available from £60. See here for more
