British Airways is to become the first airline to show an inflight Carry On film … and blonde bombshell star of the films, Barbara Windsor, hooked up with some BA pilots this week to celebrate.

Carry on Camping, with its famous scene featuring the EastEnders actress in an early morning workout, could be the first in a series of the classic comedy capers to wing their way on board the airline’s flights.

Barbara said: “Everyone loves the Carry Ons, so it’s brilliant that British Airways is going to get them up in the air to show them on board a flight for the first time.

“They were incredibly popular when they first came out although they look a bit tame compared to modern films. But they’ve stood the test of time and are just as funny now, and I’m really proud that British Airways is the first airline to show them on their flights.”

The airline’s Richard D’Cruze said: “British humour is famous all over the world so we wanted to bring these classic comedies to a new generation of flyers here in the UK and overseas. They are also perfect for those customers who want to relive some of the series’ best comedy moments – in the air for the first time.

“If Carry on Camping proves popular with customers we hope to carry on showing more in the long-running series.”

Released in 1969, Carry on Camping was a box-office hit and the most successful British film shown that year, with Barbara Windsor starring alongside regulars like Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims and Hattie Jacques.

It was the seventeenth in the hugely successful 31-strong series of Carry On films, which is the largest number of films of any British series ever made.

British Airways customers will be able to watch Carry on Camping on selected long-haul flights, including the new A380 and 787 Dreamliner services to destinations around the world, for the next three months, from December until the end of February.
