Stay in haunted hotels this Halloween

haunted hotels

If you want Halloween to really go with a bump in the night, Best Western is suggesting a number of haunted hotels in which to stay on October 31.

York

The Best Western Plus Dean Court Hotel in York is famed for its ‘mad maid’. Mediums visiting the hotel in what is said to be one of the most haunted cities in the world have apparently ‘contacted’ the spectre who revealed that she once worked as a cleaner in a guesthouse called Vollnas that is now part of the hotel. Room 36 is said to be where she is most active – doors slam, things move and cold spots appear, even in the middle of summer.

Double rooms start from £171 per night, B&B

Chester

Stay in the Best Western Premier Queen Hotel in Chester and you might hear the giggling sound of children – once a nursery, guests have reported hearing the laughter of a small girl and said they have their hair pulled as they fill the bath tub. Her tricycle has also been heard.

Double rooms start from £126 per night, B&B

Darlington

The spirit of a lovelorn teenager is said to reside at the Best Western Walworth Castle Hotel near Darlington. According to folklore, she was daughter of a lord fell who in love with the stable boy and, forbidden to see each other, they tried to keep the romance hidden, but were discovered and punished. Guests often report sightings of her walking along the first floor which was once the corridor to the honeymoon suite. Guests have woken to tea cups rattling and chambermaids have had their hair tugged.

A suite in the main castle is from £161 per night, B&B
