Stay in Cleopatra’s bath

Want to luxuriate in the same bath as Elizabeth Taylor?

The former Queen of Hollywood was bathing in the Harlequin Suite of London’s famous Dorchester Hotel when she discovered she had won the starring role in the 1963 film Cleopatra (above).

The hotel has seen more than its fare share of silver screen time too. It was one of the locations for romantic comedy Wimbledon, where Kirsten Dunst and Paul Bettany’s on-screen characters fall in love and has also featured in the recent series Hotel Secrets with Richard E Grant, which gave viewers an insight into the behind-the-scene elements of the world’s most luxurious hotels.

Another hotel seen on Hotel Secrets was the Dorchester’s sister hotel Le Meurice in Paris. Le Meurice also phosted filming for Woody Allen’s acclaimed romantic comedy Midnight in Paris and Madonna’s directorial debut W.E.

Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere featured another Dorchester Collection hotel, the Hotel Principe di Savoia in many scenes and includes the Presidential Suite with its impressive private swimming pool – the only suite in Milan with a private pool – into which Steven Dorff jumps with his daughter.

Film crews and famous stars have long-flocked to The Beverly Hills Hotel, which opened in 1912 prior to the founding of Beverly Hills itself – the city was built around the glamorous hotel.

The hotel is shown on The Eagles’ world famous album cover, Hotel California, and in 1957 the pool and the cabana club were the setting for Gregory Peck and Lauren Bacall in Designing Woman. The “Pink Palace” made its way into the 1973 film The Way We Were with Barbara Streisand and Robert Redford, and in 1975 was the location for Shampoo starring Warren Beatty, Julie Christie and Goldie Hawn.
