Looking for somewhere to take a delicious dip? Here’s the your-hols.com selection of the world’s top ten best hotel swimming pools.
San Alfonso del Mar
More of a swimming lagoon than a swimming pool, this vast body of water is supposedly both the world’s largest and deepest pool. It covers a whopping 19 acres and holds some 66million gallons of water. The pool is so large that people can even sail and waterski on it.
Marina Bay Sands
The rooftop infinity pool at the Marina Bay Sands is a firm favourite with Singapore’s champagne set. Set 57 stories above the ground at 650ft, the views are stupendous. Plus its huge – at 150m, its’ three times the length of an Olympic pool and runs the length of the hotel’s Sky Park.
The village of Oia, clinging to the edge of Santorini’s caldera, is said to have the most beautiful sunsets in the world. Whether you believe that or not, the pool at this hotel in the village has its own accolade as the one to grace the most covers of travel magazines. Its infinity edge has views over the two volcanic islands in Santorini Bay. For a very decent alternative, check out the pool at The Grace in the neighbouring village of Imerovigli, which also looks over the caldera.
The Alila hotels in Bali try to outdo each other when it comes to stunning swimming pools. The one at Alila Ubud hotel is very, very cool – but we prefer this one at the sister Uluwatu hotel. Thanks to being perched on rocks 100m above the water, the 50m pool has looks over the Indian Ocean, Ayung River valley and jungle hillsides of central Bali.
Hotel du Cap-Eden-Rock
This iconic stalwart is nestled on the cliff along the rugged Cap d’Antibes coast just outside Cannes. There are views over to Lérins Islands and Cannes Bay where superyachts plough through the waters.
Kempinski Nile Hotel
Take a step back to less troubled times in Egypt’s history with a dip in this pool on the 11th floor of the Kempinski Hotel. It looks over the majestic Nile, lined with the beautiful old palaces of Garden City.
Grand Hotel Tremezzo
Lake Como, Italy
This unique pool, floating on Lake Como has incredible views of the water and surrounding mountains, as well as the frontage of this grand dame of hotels. Unsurprisingly, it’s called Water on the Water.
The Oberoi Udaivilas
On the shores of Lake Pichola and overlooking the historic city of Udaipur, rooms at this luxury hotel have terrace access to a swimming pool that runs the length of the building.
Opened in March 2014, this luxury resort sits on the tip of Cape Yamu and there are views of the Andaman Sea and Phang Nga Bay, plus beautiful sunrises and sunsets from its 100m long pool.
There’s a moody beach club feel to the pool at this hotel looking out over Funchal Marina. Hardly surprising when it was awarded the title of World’s Leading Design Hotel at the 2013 World Travel Awards.
