Truffle hunting weekends in Provence

Go on a safari of a different king in France – looking for elusive truffles.

Hotel Crillon le Brave in Provence will be running truffle hunting long weekends this November.

The two set date weekends (Thurs-Sun: 1-4 Nov & 15-18 Nov 2012) take in three days for novices and connoisseurs to immerse themselves in the world of truffles. The highlight of the weekend is truffle hunting with a local expert ‘truffier’ whose passionate character and knowledge of the area bring the reality of truffle growing and harvesting to life.

A hands-on cooking demonstration (with in-house chef Phillippe Zemour) kick-starts a leisurely weekend of culinary activities, including a wine tasting at a Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate (historic Château la Nerthe) and a visit to a quintessential farmers’ market in Provence’s antiques capital, Isla-sur-la-Sorgue.

A free afternoon can then be spent soaking up Provence’s cultural and pastoral gems: be the artworks in nearby Aix-en-Provence or vineyards scattered below the majestic Mount Ventoux. Activities over the weekend still allow guests time to indulge in a massage at the hotel’s mini-spa, play tennis, go swimming, or simply lie in the shade of the mid-afternoon sun with a glass of crisp white wine.

Three nights is from £446 per person, half-board.
