Well this is different! Virgin Holidays has created a 35ft high luxury South African treehouse on London’s Southbank – and you could sleep in it!

The treehouse –  with a private balcony, sweeping views of the Thames and St Paul’s, a personal chef and bespoke African-inspired design – is open from 11am to 6pm until January 28.

Anyone wishing to stay overnight needs to register their details here for a chance to win a sleepover.

The treehouse is to allow people to see what a Virgin Holidays Wonderlist experience would be like and is based on the Lion Sands Game Reserve treehouse accommodation in South Africa.

It has two bespoke bedrooms and a six-course private degustation menu from Masterchef contestant Petrus Madutlela for some of the bravest eaters.  It includes dishes such as tempura meal worms with induja mayo, shaved ostrich biltong, braised terrine of crocodile and smoked goat fillet with chakalaka sauce.

He said: “Although I live in the UK, South Africa is always going to be in my heart. This is an incredible experience, and I wanted to offer a menu that matches. Although a lot of these ingredients are seen as a bit wild and eccentric, they are actually exceptionally tasty and good for you.”

The interior of the treehouse has been designed by renowned interior designer Hubert Zandberg and features tribal prints, a four-post plush bed and African sculpture.
