Why has British Airways made artwork out of coins?

British Airways has created the world’s biggest piece of money art – using 600,000 ten, five, two and one penny coins.

The giant mural of the Statue of Liberty is to celebrate offers on flights and holidays across the network. See how they did it on the Big British Airways Take Off.

The 600,000 coins were delivered from a London bank vault to the airline’s Heathrow engineering base where a team created the mural on a hangar floor depicting the landmark in New York – British Airways’ flagship Atlantic route.

The artwork measures 10 by eight metres and took seven people six hours to lay the coins out by hand. The money, weighing in at a whopping 30 stone (2,725kg), was delivered by a high security vehicle complete with two bodyguards.

We offer a great range of fares and holiday packages, which will allow our customers to bank plenty of money to spend on their holidays.”
