The chillier it gets, the more we want a winter sun holiday. Lowcostholidays.com says searches for breaks in the sun are up a massive 190 per cent compared to last year and bookings are up more than a quarter.
So where are we going? Tenerife, Lanzarote, Egypt, Mexico, Marrakech and Dubai are the favourite destinations with more and more holidaymakers using mobile devices to search for and book their holiday with mobile traffic up 292 per cent year on year.
MD Tim Buckman said: “The temperature drop over the weekend created a surge in searches and bookings for winter sun holidays. With colder weather forecast over the next few weeks, holidaymakers are taking a break from their Christmas shopping to book a late sunshine escape. Many are still looking to get away for Xmas and New Year with Christmas holiday searches up 33 per cent year on year.”
City breaks are also up 37 per cent year on year with the warmer temperature in Marrakech making it a popular choice. Other popular city break destinations include Rome, Amsterdam and Paris.
The latest prices from lowcostholidays show a seven-night holiday in a four-star hotel in the Algarve in January on a self-catering basis from £123 per person including flights and seven nights in January at a four-star all-inclusive hotel in Sharm El Sheikh (above) from £289 per person including flights.
