If you’re looking for a quick getaway in the UK this winter, this could be the answer. Mercure hotels is offering 40 per cent off stays between December 20 and March 16.
The company has 74 hotels across the country including hotels in woodlands, on the coast and in cities. Hotels include:
Stratford – Mercure Stratford-upon-Avon Shakespeare Hotel: Located in the heart of Shakespeare’s home town, the hotel (above) is in typical Tudor style and has log fires, low beams and creaking floorboards that provide old-world charm. The building dates back to 1637 and the rooms are named after Shakespeare’s plays.
Banbury – Mercure Banbury Whately Hall Hotel: This historic hotel was frequented by Jonathan Swift when he wrote ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ and King James II in 1687. Part of the hotel is the 17th century tavern ‘The Three Tuns Inn’ and there are supposed ‘haunted’ hallways following the death of a priest 300 years ago.
