Update: 19:00, March 4, 2013. Your Hols has been told that the jobs had more than 5,000 applications in the first two hours, so the competition is going to be tough!

Fair dinkum: the ‘Best Job In The World’ is back… and this time it is bigger than ever.

The original competition by Tourism Australia to find someone to be caretaker of the Great Barrier Reef took place in 2009 and saw Ben Southall (above) beat 34,000 other applicants for the coveted role.

Now the Oz tourism board has teamed up with six regional offices and is looking for people to follow in Ben’s footsteps by applying for the following roles:

• Lifestyle Photographer (Melbourne)
• Chief Funster (New South Wales)
• Outback Adventurer (Northern Territory)
• Park Ranger (Queensland)
• Wildlife Caretaker (South Australia)
• Taste Master (Western Australia)

Each job comes with a six-month contract and salary package worth AUD $100,000 (approximately £67,380).

Applications for the roles open today, and candidates need to register their interest at either www.facebook.com/australianworkingholiday or www.australia.com/bestjobs.

Applicants will be notified as to the next stage in the recruitment process within 48 hours of registering.

Tourism Australia Managing Director Andrew McEvoy said “We’ve taken one of the most successful tourism campaigns in recent times – ‘Best Job in the World’ – and made it bigger and better by coming up with a competition which represents our breath-taking landscapes, our unique wildlife, great food and wine and, of course, our huge sense of fun.

Ben Southall added: “A few years ago I won ‘The Best Job in the World’. Unfortunately for me, my time is up. But luckily for the world ‘The Best Job in the World’ is back. This time there’s not one, but six amazing jobs in Australia up for grabs.”
