Boost for Irish holiday resorts

Irish holiday resorts

Visitors are expected to flock to two Irish holiday resorts next year after they were voted Top Tourist Towns for 2014.

Irish Ferries is predicting there’ll be a boost in tourism in Kinsale (above) and Westport – one at each end of the Wild Atlantic Way scenic drive – and are ensuring they have lots more breaks available.

Head of Holidays Ann Pye said: “Bookings for our holidays to Ireland’s north-west doubled this year, thanks to the publicity surrounding the Wild Atlantic Way, and we’re increasing our capacity along the southern route in anticipation of 2015 demand.”

In the north-west, Westport in County Mayo, won the ‘best small tourist town’ award, and Kinsale, at the southern extremity of the route in County Cork takes the ‘best large tourist town’ crown.

Irish ferries is now featuring the Actons Hotel on the colourful Kinsale quayside, as well as the Carlton Kinsale Hotel just outside the town, and the luxurious Kilcatty Lodge B&B nearby.

In 2015, a week-long holiday including ferry crossings to Ireland and six nights B&B at Actons Hotel (plus one night in Dublin before the journey home) costs from £335 per person, based on two travelling together by car, and sharing a double/twin room.

In County Mayo, six nights at the Westport Coast Hotel on the shores of Clew Bay within an easy walk of the town centre, with one night in Dublin before the journey home, costs from £365 per person including ferry crossings. That is based on two people travelling together by car and sharing a double/twin room.
