Castle in the Xmas air

Warwick Castle is always a popular attraction at Christmas and there’s plenty going on this year for the whole family. Enjoy Story Time with Santa and his mischievous elves, a Victorian celebration in Secrets & Scandals, and a Winter Treasure Trail. The Castle will be decked in festive splendour with a 25ft Christmas tree, roaring log fires, carol singing, torch-lit tours and weekend breakfast with Santa. Here’s the programme of events from December 1 until January 6:

Winter Torch-lit Tours – every Sunday in December: All the family can take part in a guided Winter Torch-lit Tour of the grand interior of the castle. Tours will take place in the evenings to experience how Christmas has been celebrated through the ages and will include festive food and drink. Must be pre-booked at an additional cost.

Enchanted Winter Treasure Trail – every day: Explore the castle’s interior with a fun treasure hunt. Maps will guide guests through the castle, using clues to uncover different secrets about its Christmas past.

Story Time with Santa – every weekend until Christmas Eve: Santa’s mischievous elves are back, and will be preparing for Christmas in the Red Drawing Room. with a spellbinding storytelling show, magical tales and fun.

Breakfast with Santa – every weekend until Christmas Eve: Santa’s elves will greet and entertain children at a very special breakfast. Eat, sing and be merry with party games, carols and receive a special Christmas gift! Must be pre-booked at an additional cost.

Duelling Gents – every weekend until January 6: Warwick Castle’s very own swordsmen take to the central courtyard for a dazzling and swashbuckling display of authentic Georgian swordsmanship.

Carol Singing in the Chapel – every weekend, main event December 22: Enter into the festive spirit with Warwick Castle’s resident choir as they sing classic Christmas carols in the beautiful surroundings of the chapel. The carol main event will be Carols in the Castle on Saturday, December 22.

A Very Victorian Christmas Party – every day: In Secrets and Scandals the Earl and Countess of Warwick will play host to an elaborate Victorian Christmas party, inviting visitors to join them as their guests to uncover the thousand-years of history that has taken place within the castle’s walls.

The Princess Tower Winter Wedding – every day, except Christmas Day: Over in the Princess Tower, a winter wedding is about to take place and all little princesses and budding knights can join in the preparations, where they can witness the festive wedding preparations for themselves.

The Great Hall and State Rooms – every day: The Great Hall (above) and other grand rooms will be decked out in Christmas finery with log fire and a 25ft Christmas tree.

The Castle Dungeon – every day, except Christmas Day: Victims can enter the Castle Dungeon, but be warned – the Witches of Warwick may not let you out! Chilling chapters of the Castle’s history are recreated.

Merlin: The Dragon Tower – every day, except Christmas Day: There’s no shortage of real magic in Merlin: The Dragon Tower. Based on the popular BBC show, where else this Christmas is there the opportunity to meet the great dragon from Camelot itself!

Flight of the Eagles – every day, except Christmas Day: This Christmas magical and mythical birds soar through the sky with a winter backdrop.

Ghosts of Warwick Castle Tour – every day: Tours tracking the ghosts of Warwick Castle will search the spooky nooks and crannies of this haunted castle!
