Cheaper to Gather in Ireland

It’s cheaper this year to holiday in the Emerald Isle which is celebrating The Gathering – a showcase of the best Ireland has to offer with events all over the country to attract visitors. Irish ferries has launched its programme and prices are five per cent lower with offers such as free hotel nights and free child places. And all prices include return ferry crossings for the car.

Manager Ann Pye said: “The £ buys several more euros in Ireland this year and that’s reflected in lower prices across the board. With so many events for The Gathering being held too, there’s never been a better year to visit Ireland for a short break or summer holiday.”

New in the programme are: Renvyle House Hotel in a glorious setting in Connemara on the Galway coast (above), with its own nine-hole golf course and fishing lake. The renowned restaurant has just been named “culinary haven of the year” by Good Food Ireland. Three-night breaks from £320 per couple.

Killashee House Hotel in Naas is a 19th century castle set in 250 acres of parkland in the heart of horse-breeding County Dublin, close to Punchestown, Naas and the Curragh. A first-class Spa and Leisure Centre complete this luxurious destination hotel. Two-night breaks from £396 per couple.

Quilty Holiday Homes in County Clare is a small cluster of individual, traditionally-styled holiday cottages run by the Mungovern family, five minutes’ walk from west-coast beaches and with an indoor swimming pool among the central facilities. A week’s stay for a family of up to six costs from £507 – with a second week FREE on selected dates.

Lead-in prices: From £298 per couple for three nights at a Dublin hotel, based on two people travelling in the same car and sharing a room, including breakfast each morning and free parking. From £411 for 7 (or 14) nights’ self-catering in a holiday cottage for two adults and up to four children under 16, including cottage rental and return ferry crossings for the family car. Dogs are also welcome at selected holiday cottages, and there’s no Pet Passport scheme to worry about when taking a dog to Ireland. From £304 per couple for two nights at one of Ireland’s 1,400 accredited B&B homes, based on two people travelling in the same car, and sharing a room, including breakfast each morning.

Irish Ferries operates three ships sailing between Britain and Ireland: cruise-ferry Ulysses and the Dublin Swift from Holyhead to Dublin plus Isle of Inishmore from Pembroke to Rosslare.
