Movie star Thor is on Canary Isle

There’ll be some fabulous scenery in Ron Howard’s new film The Heart of the Sea – and we’re not just talking about hunky Chris Hemsworth of Thor fame.

The movie – based on real-life events that inspired Herman Melville’s “Moby Dick” – on La Gomera in the Canary Isles. Chris, 30, who has been on a crash diet for the roleCillian Murphy and Skyfall’s Ben Whishaw are on the island now and you can follow in their footsteps with a stay at the four-star hotel Jardin Tecina, recently introduced by new tour operator Fred.\

The Hotel Jardin Tecina, which has 434 rooms and suites and great facilities, sits on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean (above) with uninterrupted views of the neighbouring island of Tenerife and surrounded by a garden of more than 70,000 square metres. There’s lots of leisure and sporting activities including an 18-hole golf course.

La Gomera is one of the most peaceful islands in the Canaries, being just 15 miles (25km) across and 14 miles (22km) from north to south. It’s perfect for walkers, hikers and birdwatchers and the winter temperatures are good too, around 22C.

Fred.\ is offering flight, three nights’ accommodation and transfer packages at The Hotel Jardin Tecina from £589 per person between January 3 and February 4.
