The 2013 Fowey Festival of Words & Music kicks off in May and you can big up your literary credentials with a stay opposite Daphne du Maurier’s home.

The festival this year sees a host of stellar names, including  Tony Hawkes, Robert Powell, Jonathan Dimbleby, Kate Humble, Fern Britton, Ken Livingstone and Monty Halls and there will be more than 140 separate events from May 8-18 for the event including talks, exhibitions, workshops, guided walks, river cruises and community activities .

Visit the festival and you can stay opposite the cottage where acclaimed author Daphne du Maurier penned Hungry Hill. Farthings is a 200-year-old former pilchard store above Readymoney Cove.

The four-bed cottage is situated in a hamlet with just seven other houses and sits above an enchanting sandy bay with its own swimming platform 20 metres off shore.

Inside, Farthings has an open plan living, dining and kitchen area on the first floor, which has double doors that open up onto a balcony overlooking the secluded beach below.  A wood burning stove keeps guest toasty and warm at night, and the flatscreen TV, DVD player and IPod sound system helps to entertain in the brief moments away from the beach.

Seven night’s self-catering at the cottage can be booked for £1,039
