Girls don’t like David Beckham-style Speedos

David Beckham

David Beckham loves them… so he might be a bit upset to hear that most girls don’t like Speedos. Well, if they are completely honest, they might not mind the hunky ex-footballer wearing them but they prefer their own men in swim shorts.

Becks, pictured in a not-so-little white number when launching his H&M Bodywear swimwear, says: “The success of my Bodywear collection at H&M has been fantastic, so I’m thrilled to be introducing these great swimwear pieces ready for the summer.”

Sorry to tell you David, but according to an On the Beach survey, 98% of British women don’t want their guys wearing snug Speedos while on holiday.

The survey of 1,500 British holidaymakers reveals that the majority (70%) of women prefer to see men don swim shorts while others something inbetween but definitely not tight, skimpy trunks. Fortunately, Becks also has shorts in his new range.

Alistair Daly, of On the Beach, said: “We often see pictures of celebrity men wearing tight fitting Speedos on holiday but our survey suggests that girls are not keen on their partners doing the same.”

Almost three quarters of men (74%) like to see their girls wearing a bikini, others opt for a tankini – with 2 per cent wanting a total cover-up, a kaftan!

The survey also reveals that the majority of women (71%) are happy to go with the natural look, not wearing any make-up on the beach. However, more than a quarter (26%) said they use a “little bit” of make-up, with just 3% saying they stick to their usual “make-up routine” for beach days.

Worryingly, 24% of British girls admit that if they wear make-up on the beach, they are less likely to use sun protection cream. Men are more careful with the majority of guys saying they always use sun cream (68%) on holiday, with 13% saying spreading on a tanning oil. However, 9% of British men admit to never using any form of sun protection.

Alistair Daly added: “It is a concern that some people don’t wear any sunscreen. While we all enjoy trying to get that all important tan, everyone should make sure they use the correct sun protection.”
