Go Greek like Les Mis star Jackman

Hugh Jackman

Life’s not always Les Miserables for movie star Hugh Jackman. He’s been known to stay at a luxury boutique hotel – sleeping among priceless masterpieces including Picasso. Hugh, who plays Jean Valjean in the blockbuster movie, is one of the Hollywood celebs to frequent the five-suite Tsitouras Collection hotel on the Greek island of Santorini – once the home of renowned Greek collector Dimitri Tsitouras.

It houses many of his 4,000 pieces including a wonderful ceramic by Pablo Picasso featuring three fish in relief, which will one day sit in a museum currently being constructed. Until then, the eclectic mix of paintings, furniture and sculpture adorn the interior of Santorini’s most exclusive boutique hotel.

Perched 400 metres above sea level on the cliffs of the island’s world-renowned Caldera, the hotel (below) is a beautifully restored 18th century school house. Suites from 295 Euros a night (£245) have spectacular views of the Mediterranean and are each themed around the works inside them. These include the house of porcelain, the house of portraits and the house of Nureyev.

Previous guests also include Hollywood actor Harvey Keitel, racing driver David Coulthard and fashion icons Jean Paul Gaultier, Domenico Dolce and Gianni Versace who once booked the entire property for a month.

The hotel, one of 11 Aqua Vista properties (www.aquavistahotels.com) on Santorini, opens at the beginning of April and there are Spring and Easter discounts. Click here to book with the hotel at www.tsitouras.com
