Harry and Meghan: Don’t be like 83% of newlyweds and regret your big day

Let’s hope Harry and Meghan get their wedding right. There’s already speculation that the Suits actress wanted a more intimate affair but she was soon told: That’s not possible when you are marrying a royal, Meghan!

According to luxury couples’ holiday experts, Sandals & Beaches Resorts, 83 per cent of Brits who married for the first time in the last five years would do it differently. That’s a huge number compared to the 17 per cent who “wouldn’t change a thing” on their big day.

The Sandals survey showed that newlyweds weren’t happy about the cost (45%), venue size/location (29%), looking good on the day (27%) and inviting people they didn’t know just to please their parents (18%). Sadly, on average couples said they only keep in touch with six out of 10 off the guests.

At least Harry and Meghan have left out politicians such as Prime Minister May and President Trump! Mind you, they’ve invited lots of strangers into the grounds of Windsor Castle.

The survey reveals that the seating plan is another cause for concern and over half (52%) of newlyweds said they would have less guests and a more lavish wedding if they were to do it all again, compared to just 22% who would have more guests but a less lavish celebration.

While couples weren’t able to have Ed Sheeran or the Spice Girls performing at their nuptials (add Coldplay and Elton John on to the possible list for Harry and Meghan), entertainment still factored highly in the list of wedding concerns along with… the weather, of course.

Sandals Director of Romance, Marsha-Ann Brown, says “It’s a typically British trait for couples to be concerned about the weather on their wedding day, though it’s the one thing that no-one can control, not even Meghan and Harry!

“Fortunately, Caribbean weddings are often blessed with sunshine – it’s one of the natural advantages of getting married overseas. The rise of social media over the last five years especially could explain the fact that most millennials are concerned about what other people think of their wedding day and how they look.”
