Here’s how YOU can support the #SaveTravel campaign

#SaveTravel

Whether you work in the travel industry or not, it is vital that you support the #SaveTravel campaign. Hundreds of thousands of jobs will be lost without urgent support from the government, as the travel industry struggles to survive in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

And this will have a massive impact on your travel plans for the future. Less flights, less choice of holidays, less hotels – airlines and travel companies are in desperate trouble and need your help.

The campaign has been launched by travel industry newspaper TTG, which has written a letter to transport secretary Grant Shapps and chancellor Rishi Sunak demanding more support for the travel industry.

It points out that while most other industries have been able to restart, outbound and inbound travel has stalled, with the decision to revoke Spain’s travel corridor a particular blow to consumer confidence in booking overseas holidays.

Editor Sophie Griffiths said: “We know how powerless people have been feeling during the crisis and that their voices are not being heard. All this was exacerbated by the decision on effectively banning all travel to Spain with no consultation, for example.

“Now the next step is localising the campaign and impressing on MPs and the local media the specific impact this crisis will have on their towns, high streets, local businesses and residents if the travel industry is not supported.”

The campaign, supported by ABTA and Aito, has put together a plan for travel agents but wants consumers to show their support to get the government to act.

Here’s what you can do:
Tell the world why you support the campaign on social media using #SaveTravel – this could, perhaps, take the form of a short video, image or post about one of your favourite holidays or holiday destinations, and why travel is important to you/what the campaign is calling for. And tag anyone you believe would be interested

If you feel happy to do so, write to your local MP –  by finding them here: https://members.parliament.uk/constituencies – and let them know why you believe the travel sector needs protecting. Or perhaps send them a copy of TTG’s #SaveTravel letter which you can find and download here.
