There’s always music filtering through the air in Barbados but next month the island is going jazz-crazy. The hotspot is kicking off the inaugural Naniki Caribbean Jazz Safari, a unique jazz adventure sweeping the Caribbean in 2013.

Events and shows will be held throughout Barbados between January 17 and 21 before the safari goes on to Antigua, St Vincent and Grenada. The Barbados festival will open with “Mellow Moods” at the Charles Fort at the Hilton Barbados Resort, headlined by the T.S Monk Quintet featuring Alyson Williams. This will be followed by “Happy Birthday Cedar Walton” at the Frank Collymore Hall with Nneena Freelon Quartet and the David “Happy” Williams quartet featuring Cedar Walton Saxophonist.

Jazz move on to Harrison’s Cave on the Saturday afternoon for “Rhythm of the Islands” and there’s a fun-filled family day at Ilaro Court on Sunday January 20. For full details of events see www.nanikicaribbeanjazzsafari.com

Tropical Sky offers seven nights all-inclusive at the Almond Casuarina Beach Resort from £1,349 per person (saving £700). The price is based on two adults sharing and includes return flights from Gatwick on January 16. Tickets to the Jazz Safari events are around £24 and can be bought on-line or from the venues.
