Manchester’s Midland hotel in TV fly-on-the-wall series

Manchester's Midland Hotel

Manchester’s Midland Hotel, one of Britain’s most historic hotels, features in a fly-on-the-wall documentary series, starting tonight on Channel 5 at 9pm.

Inside Manchester’s Midland Hotel, a four-part documentary, will follow the ups and downs of the city’s most iconic hotel through the eyes of its staff – including Sandra Dixon, Executive Head Housekeeper, and Estelle Hornett, Deputy Head Housekeeper(above).

For 111 years, the Midland – in the city centre and part of the QHotels group – has been THE place to stay, hosting kings, queens, presidents, prime ministers and rock stars.

General manager Mike Magrane (above with his staff) said: “The new series will provide an insight into one of the most historic hotels in the country.

“We’ve opened the doors of our Grade II listed building to give the British public a glimpse into the people – and characters – that make our award-winning restaurants, renowned conference and events facilities and world-class leisure offering so unique.”

Alan Brown, Executive Producer for Chocolate Media which made the series, said: “It’s extraordinary to get the chance to film inside because what you see as a guest is only a part of the hotel. Behind the walls and doors is a labyrinth of floors and corridors like a grand ocean liner and that’s not to mention the hundreds of staff. We’ve met some great characters that are not just super professional but boast warmth and a sense of humour that reflects the city.”
