Murray mania boost tennis hols

Andy Murray

It may be a fortnight since Andy Murray’s triumph at Wimbledon – but Brits’ enthusiasm for the game shows no sign of dampening.

The young Scot’s victory – the first by a British male in 77 years – has seen a surge in bookings for tennis holidays according to leading Spanish health and holiday club La Manga.

The award-winning resort – usually more favoured by Premier League stars – is where Murray and British ladies’ number one Laura Robson have trained on their way to tennis stardom, while the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is using the venue as its overseas training base until 2016.

Players of all ages and standards can brush up on all aspects of their game at the venue’s 28-court tennis academy over the coming months – with accommodation and daily court hire or tuition on offer from just €94 per night for a four-night stay.

Available from August 19 until the end of October, the price includes accommodation in the fully serviced, four-star Las Lomas Village apartments, breakfast, VAT and access to Spa La Manga Club’s fitness centre, indoor pool, saunas and steam rooms.

As well as its new partnership with the LTA, La Manga has staged various high-profile competitions including Davis and Fed Cup matches, and regularly hosts some of the top stars in the game, with South African number one Kevin Anderson and the Russian Ladies’ Tennis Federation the latest leading names to use the resort as a warm weather training base.
