If China is on your list of countries to visit, now is the time to book flights. BA has announced special fares on a new route to Chendgu – home of the Giant Pandas – which launches in September.

Return fares in Club World are £1,888, a 40 per cent reduction, and flights in World Traveller and World Traveller Plus are £508 and £808, saving 30 and 29 per cent respectively. The savings are for travel between September 20 and March 31 next year.

The service is BA’s first new route to China since it launched flights to Shanghai in 2005. The Giant Pandas were on hand to sample the signature afternoon tea service (above) to celebrate. Crew member Jayne Deasy, said: “We’re all very excited about starting this new route and being the first and only airline to offer a direct link between London and the home of the Giant Pandas.”

All tickets feature the number eight, regarded as lucky in China. The new route has also been given the same lucky flight numbers – BA88 and the BA89.
