Parenting skills are better on holiday, says survey

You might wonder what they are doing when they’re at home, but a new survey has revealed that mums and dads think their parenting skills are better on holiday.

The survey by Skyscanner shows that a whopping 86 per cent of people think they are better parents abroad and 56 per cent of those say it’s because they are spending more quality time with their children. The remaining 44 per cent saying they feel more relaxed and less stressed, which in turn has a positive effect on their parenting skills.

Only 14 per cent of mums and dads believe their parenting skills are worse on holiday, with 72 per cent of those saying they are more lenient and spoil their kids, with the remaining 28 per cent saying it’s because they want to relax themselves and look for an easy life .

The survey also revealed the majority of parents (83 per cent) find a two week holiday with their kids less stressful than two weeks’ at home.

Whilst one in three families (30 per cent) spend the majority of their holiday enjoying days by the pool and using the hotels facilities during their holiday, even more (46 per cent) actually spend their time getting away from their hotel and exploring the local area in addition to the 17 per cent of families who head to the area’s beaches.

Although one in five families say it’s theme parks and water parks that attract them to a particular destination, an impressive 33 per cent say they are looking to embrace the local culture and visit historical sites.
