Plymouth gears up for Armed Forces Day

Plymouth (above)- Britain’s ocean city – has a host of events on this weekend to celebrate Armed Forces Day. The programme on Saturday will include:

Armed Services Villages: Visitors will be able to meet serving personnel from the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Marines, and Royal Air Force, as well as their associated Cadet Forces. There will be displays, exhibitions and military equipment on show. Interactive exhibits will include the chance to experience a Cadet Glider simulator, try out a climbing wall and explore military vehicles.

Veterans Village: More than 40 organisations and charities dedicated to the welfare of service people, their families and veterans will be present, including the Royal British Legion, HMS Ganges Association, Help for Heroes, Armed Forces Bikers and ABF-The Soldiers charity. Historic military vehicles and motorcycles will also be on display.

Air Displays: Douglas Skyraider, Extra 260, Yakovlevs and Sea Fury planes will be flying over Plymouth Sound.

Heritage Centre Open Day: The Naval Heritage Centre at Devonport Dockyard will be open to visitors on Sunday June 30 from 10am – 5pm. Visitors can explore eight galleries of artefacts displayed in the historic South Yard and take a guided tour of the decommissioned nuclear Submarine HMS Courageous.
