Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson appeared at London Euston today to announce that his beloved Virgin trains are getting a £50 million investment.

And he says the money is being spent where customers said they wanted it to be. So, improvements will include 5,500 extra seats on the network by January – created by converting some first-class carriages – better wi-fi on trains and free wi-fi in stations.

Station enhancements take up £20 million and £8 million has also been spent on a new TV, radio and print marketing campaign including an ad called Arrive Awesome to showcase the trains and their service.

Sir Richard says: “We’re investing £50 million to create an unparalleled on-board experience for all of the millions of passengers who travel with Virgin Trains every year. And we’re spending it where customers have told us they want it.”

Routes to Blackpool and Shrewsbury are also being extended over the next year.
