Run off to Brighton for Easter

Brighton mini mile

You’ve just had half-term and now the Easter school holidays are looming, YourHols will have lots of ideas on how to entertain the kids, kicking off with these activities from Brighton & Hove are putting together a varied programme.

Brighton Sea Life Centre has new additions to their aquatic menagerie, in the form of three octopuses – the latest one, named Lizzie Blue, can be seen in her lair at the world’s oldest aquarium and as octopuses have astounding physical and mental skills, should be a source of endless fascination. www.sealife.co.uk

The dynamic duo, Wallace and Gromit, will be at Brighton Dome on March 30 with their brand new Musical Marvels show. The show features classical favourites for all the family plus a film featuring the pair’s backstage exploits as they prepare for the first performance of Wallace’s Proms commission, My Concerto in Eee, Lad! www.brightondome.org

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Grimm Fairy tales Rumpelstiltskin, will be appearing at the Dome theatre on March 31. Can the troubled Miller’s daughter outwit the sneaky, cheeky trouble maker? After this all-new production of bewitching music and puppetry, children can join the Playmakes team and get crafty themselves!

Families might be feeling a bit “chocolate egged out” after Easter and need to get fit again! The Brighton Marathon takes place on April 14 and this year will feature the Mini Mile Races (above) for more than 2,000 children to run the final mile of the Marathon along the city’s famous Seafront. The Brighton Marathon gets bigger every year and is now one of the top 12 running events in the UK and Channel 4 will be televising it for the first time. www.brightonmarathon.co.uk

There is still more going on in Brighton and Hove over Easter including the city’s Food and Drink Festival Spring Harvest, taking place from March 29 until April 7. The event celebrates local producers, growers, restaurants and food retailers and is a great chance to introduce young tummies to new and exotic foods. Over the actual Easter weekend there will be a Children’s Food Festival, Mini Mix Off and the Big Sussex Market and Life Food Show. www.brightonfoodfestival.com
