Safari like Dr Livingstone

Aardvark Safaris, Pumulani, Lake Malawi (2)

This March sees the 200th anniversary of the birth of legendary explorer, David Livingstone and you can follow in his footsteps with a holiday with Aardvark Safaris

The Warm Heart of Africa ten-night itinerary in Malawi  follows the Shire River (above) from the Majete Wildlife Reserve through Liwonde National Park and finishes at Lake Malawi which Livingstone romantically named ‘Lake of Stars’.

Highlights include:

  • Blantyre – arrive and drive through the namesake to Livingstone’s birth place (Blantyre, Scotland)
  • Shire River – the river that led him into Malawi
  • Kapichira Falls – these posed a stumbling block in the explorer’s adventures
  • Liwonde National Park – trekking up the Shire en route to the discovery of Lake Malawi
  • Lake Malawi – which Livingstone then went onto call ‘Lake of Stars’.

Safari activities include rhino tracking, walking, river trips and vehicle-based game drives. There’s also the chance to relax on the beautiful lake-side beaches at the end of the trip.

The itinerary includes three nights at Mkulumadzi in the Majete Wildlife Reserve, three nights at Mvuu Lodge in Liwonde National Park, and four nights at nights at Pumulani on Lake Malawi.

The cost is  £2,622 per person, including full-board accommodation, transfers and laundry. International flights are excluded. The trip is available for travel between the end of March and January 2014.
