The North of England and Scotland has a new Michelin starred restaurant in the 2014 Guide… The Samling Hotel.

The hotel, near Ambleside in Cumbria is the only new star for the region in the new guide and comes on the back of a number of other accolades, including being awarded three AA Rosettes last week.

The hotel’s restaurant is headed up by Ian Swainson (above) who joined the hotel in July 2012 and took the title of “Best Boutique Dining Hotel in the World”  a few months later.

He said of the new star: “Our team here is young and incredibly talented. Every single member is so passionate about what they do and totally committed to doing the very best job they can day in and day out. I believe we have an extremely bright future ahead.”

The hotel also launched a Development Kitchen earlier this month. The kitchen has been purpose-built to help the team develop the menu outside of the day-to-day running of the hotel and will hold a series of cookery courses in 2014.
