Two of the country’s biggest travel companies are expecting this Saturday to be the busiest travel day of the year.

Thomson and First Choice will see 25,000 customers fly abroad, mirroring a decade-long trend that sees the first weekend in August as the busiest day of the year.

Majorca tops the list of destinations Brits will be flying to, followed by Allicante, with Mexico being the only non-European destination to make the top five.

Mark Hall of Thomson and First Choice said: “We are gearing up to take over 25,000 people on holiday this Saturday on our busiest day of the year so far.  With the weather looking unpredictable this weekend, it couldn’t be a better time for Brits to head to the guaranteed sunshine and relax with family and friends.”
